Puma strives for carbon neutrality![]() Puma announced that they will now try to offset their own global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in an attempt to become the first carbon neutral company within the sport lifestyle industry. This means that they will compensate the company's direct and indirect CO2 emissions through projects in Africa that will take the needs of the local communities, the conservation of biodiversity and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs into account. This project-based offsetting programme is verified by an internationally recognized auditing company according to internationally accepted standards such as the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), the Gold Standard and Voluntary emission reduction standards. Puma will also offset the CO2 emissions that is released by all their sponsored teams while travelling during the World Cup. This is a direct response to the petition by the United Nations Environmental Programmes (UNEP) asking that all Football Federations offset their CO2 emissions during that time. The Puma sponsored teams' international travelling footprint over the World Cup period would be added to the company's CO2 emission count, this includes 336 players and officials travelling with the players. As Puma's long-term target is to reduce its energy and water consumption and waste and CO2 emissions by 25% by 2015 their amount of CO2 emissions that needs to be offset to become carbon neutral will also reduce. They will also require that all their local offices, stores and warehouses switch to renewable energy efficient resources rather than former electrical resources, wherever feasible.
