Usain Bolt, the world's fastest man, showed his support for all the African teams participating in the World Cup when he raced in his Puma Lava spikes at the 2010 IAAF Diamond league Series in Shanghai, China this Sunday. His race singlet had the same graphics as the Africa Unity Kit which many Puma sponsored African football teams have been wearing to show solidarity for the continent of Africa. The Lava spike shoe incorporates the technology that helped him break the 100m and 200m world records in Berlin in 2009. Bolt also showed his support for the 2010 International Year of Biodiversity - a United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) initiative which generates awareness of habitat and species conservation. Puma has been focusing strongly on the African market for a number of years and SGI Europe reports that the African market now comprise 5% of the brand’s global sales, up from 2% four years ago. Puma sponsored 10 of the 15 teams in the African Cup of Nations and sponsors four of the six African teams in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
