Light and pretty footsies

February 2007
While clothing colours are muted, the opposite goes for footwear, as seen at the Micam Shoe show where colours and materials were as bright as they could be

If you are a shrinking violet, do not worry, there are softer colours as well with several different colours in the mix: white, slate grey, smoke, ivory, beige, dusty green, turqouise and burnt earth. Men’s footwear use shades of slightly faded colours.

Espadrilles and sandals will be popular, as they are lightweight and cool, and are decorated, especially with fancy weaving.

The details (stripes, embroidery, stitching) are used discreetly. Flip-flop type sandals are jazzed-up with decorations climbing above the ankle, and ultra-flat sandals have mother-of-pearl and floral detailing.

Leather is combined with textile materials to create a sporty casual look, while interlaced leather straps are used to give shoes a hand crafted and natural look. Shoe straps are wider than before.

Sneakers are popular, but they no longer resemble the traditional sneakers. Technical sport is out of fashion. Instead they are given a smarter look and have leathers, slim lasts, and well concealed functional features — and the typical wide stripes and mesh is out. Expect to see the retro look from previous seasons.

Men’s active footwear has an urban accent with bold shades of colour used together with neutral shades. Unlike women’s footwear, the soles are active, technical and comfortable, and the uppers are inspired by technical fabrics and fibres.
