Sport and fashion are now the best of friends and since sport influences fashion, it is fit that fashion also influences sport
Tennis clothing therefore now also come in sexy new cuts for hot pants, tank tops (with exposed stomachs – for sweat-producing practices), slit skirts and low necklines – all the way to interesting dress and strap variants. Golf is increasingly becoming an after-work activity for many young people … followed by cocktails and conversation in the lounge. Golf clothing therefore has to keep up with their lifestyles. Retro is in, broken up by unconventional material and colour mixes, harking back to the 50’s. Cuts for men are casual, with loose, flowing polo shirts (that have unusual bi-colour sections) combined with oversized Bermudas. The polo shirt is also receiving a colour makeover, with interesting colours, different width block stripes, or buttons, which have contrasting colours. Finely knitted pullovers with very low necklines can be integrated into everyday wear. Cargo pants, with elaborate knee shapes, are very popular. Men have vests with oversized pockets for during the game, and elegant club blazers with intricate embroidery for after. The women’s look is also noticeably individualized and luxurious. The tight blouses made of sport satin with multicoloured knitted welts look chic thanks to sealed seams, ventilation slits and zipper bags, which are integrated into the separating seams. Vests, with stitched front parts, adjustable side loops, two-way zippers and contrasting piping on the colour, provide and alternative. The basic shirts are enhanced by details such as side slits or cut-out sections that are enclosed by corded ribbon. Tight polo shirts with tapering sleeves are made of stretch piqué and redesigned by snap-fasteners on the collar. Wide shorts without cuffs and Capri’s, made of techno-gabardine in stretch quality, finish off the look. Colours are softer and subtler, however it still has freshness. Important colours are pistachio, coral, champagne and violets, which work with the stylized argyles and checkered patterns. Footwear manufacturers are now also catering for the fashion conscious, with both soles and uppers receiving a colourful and creative touch. Soles with designs of golf balls and clubs and uppers with new ladies colours will have fashion-conscious players and non-players alike fighting for a pair. On the yachting front, men’s pants have a classical cut, with traditional cargo pants and pleats setting the tone. For a casual look there are pants with Velcro closure hems or shorts. Long-sleeve shirts with turned-up sleeves, combined with V-neck sweaters, replace short-sleeves. Combine jersey shirts with covered button facing and cardigans with white trimmed bands. Jackets are made of rip-stop nylon and breathable microfibers or Teflon-coated silk. Also note the stylish two-button jacket with subdued, maritime appliqués. A must-have for women is the wide, tunic-type shirt dress, which is worn either as a complete outfit or combined with slim-fit pants. Alternatively, go for Capri’s, culottes and voluminous shorts. The tops are made of cotton mixed with silk-like satin surfaces and have slight stretch properties with crepe-like structures. Pearl looks and metal threads are hot colours. The use of silk makes even simple cuts appear luxurious and shine in subtle matt effects. White provides class and elegance. Combine ecru, mother of pearl or limestone with powdery pastel tones to create a beautiful look. Blue is also an important colour through both the men and women’s lines.
