The 18th edition of the OutDoor trade show reached new heights as it experienced a 5% increase in visitors, 10% increase in media representatives and a 3% increase in exhibitors. Brands use the OutDoor Show as a platform to showcase their latest products – over 200 products made their world premiere at this year’s show. SA Sports Trader was there to report on the latest from the brands available in South Africa. Wandering Fever, a documentary depicting the personal and professional journey of South African endurance racer, Ryan Sandes - arguably one of the best multi-stage ultra-marathon runners - is expected to be released later this year. The film is entirely self-funded by director Dean Leslie and producer Greg Fell. The second talk of the FEAT (Fascinating Expedition & Adventure Talks) showcase was held in Cape Town on the 12th of February 2011. FEAT is an evening of time-limited presentations by South African adventurers - each speaker only having seven minutes to tell of a specific aspect of an adventure. In this talk Tatum looks at the variables that make adventure racing a challenging sport, including the dangers and a nasty encounter with stinging trees at a multiday race in Australia last year. Speakers at FEAT included Allyson Towle with Marc Booysen, Benita de Witt, Braam Malherbe, Hanli Prinsloo, Johnny Cronje, Monde Sitole, Nick Bennett, Peter van Kets and Tatum Prins. Tatum Prins was one of our panel of experts for our Equipping the off-road runner article in the latest issue of Sports Trader.

Banff Mountain Film Festival held their World Tour in Cape Town in September 2010. It showcased some of the top international outdoor extreme filmmakers. The festival ran in South Africa from the 17th to the 23rd of September.
