SASCOC discussed sponsorship with one company
So far we’ve found only one major clothing brand operating in SA that had been discussing sponsorship of the SA Olympic Team with SASCOC before they signed a 7-year (2011-2017) R31.5m ($4-m) deal with Chinese brand Erke. “Nike had met with SASCOC to discuss the opportunity to partner with SASCOC as a technical sponsor. SASCOC received a better sponsorship deal,” says Nike SA PR Seruscka Naidoo.
SASCOC CEO Tubby Reddy had told the media that they had no option but to sign an agreement with Erke because they could not find a SA-based clothing sponsor to “come to the party”.
